What it is

An LPG leak detector with a clamp-on actuator that turns the cylinder regulator knob to OFF.

What it does

  • Detects LPG near the floor
  • Turns the regulator knob to OFF
  • Sounds a siren and alerts phones
  • Stays off until reset by hand

Who it's for

Indian households and small kitchens that cook on LPG cylinders.

The idea

The cylinder trolley under the stove weighs the gas: days left, the day to book a refill and a check at the door

The problem today

Indian homes guess how much gas is left by shaking the cylinder or with a wet cloth. In 2026 a refill can be booked only 25 days after the last delivery (35 for double-cylinder homes) and can take 15 to 20 days to arrive, so a family that books when the flame dies goes weeks without gas. Short-filled cylinders go unnoticed at the door, and children living away cannot see any of this for their parents.

With GasLock LPG

The wheeled trolley the cylinder already stands on gets a weighing deck, and a small pod on the wall by the stove shows kg of gas left, days left and the date the next refill can be booked. A new cylinder is checked for its net gas within 20 seconds of being put on, and the family's phones get the booking reminder and a notice when gas is used at odd hours.

  2. 2Weighing deck in the cylinder trolleyFour load cells under the cylinder weigh it all day; the pod turns the weight into gas left using the tare stamped on the cylinder
  3. 3New or spare cylinder at the doorPut it on the trolley and within 20 seconds the pod shows its net gas, so a short-filled cylinder is caught before the delivery leaves

What you see in the app

One screen for each job GasLock LPG does.

  • Gas leftA family cooks on a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder. The deck under it weighs the gas, so nobody has to shake or lift it to guess.

  • Refill bookingRefills can only be booked after a set gap. On the first allowed day the family is reminded, and a press of BOOKED on the deck logs it.

  • Cylinder swapThe delivery man swaps the empty cylinder for a full one. The deck sees the drop and the rise, and starts counting the new gas.

  • Odd-hour useIn the middle of the night the cylinder gets lighter. An elderly parent may have left a burner on, so the family is told.

App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.

    Lab updates for GasLock LPG

    All lab updates
    1. LatestIndian households guess the gas left in their LPG cylinder, while in 2026 a refill can be booked only 25 days after the last delivery (35 for double-cylinder homes) and can take 15 to 20 days to arrive (Hitavada, 21 Apr 2026, sources in DESIGN.md).
      • Drawn idea plan (idea.json): a home kitchen from above with the counter, the two-burner stove and its hose, the sink, the cylinder on its trolley under the counter and the spare cylinder by the front door; pins for the wall pod, the weighing deck and a new cylinder being checked at the door
      • The product picture is now this drawn plan instead of the plain fallback card; drawn from the design notes, not the CAD
      • What the plan keeps from the market work: it sells knowing when to book and a check at the door, and the odd-hours notice is a usage notice, not a leak detector
      • Next: more drawn plans for catalogue products that still show the fallback card, then close-out C5 (buyer review prep for sports) from 12:00

    3. A protective clamp-on accessory was hard to sell → the product is now the cylinder trolley families already buy, with a weighing deck; the shut-off is an optional Plus kit
      • Upgraded design: 16 printed parts in code CAD, bought parts fit-checked
      • Market research, hardware list and use case written up
      • Design page and kit render published

    GasLock LPG FAQ

    General FAQ
    What data does GasLock collect?

Only gas readings, temperature, battery level and event times. There is no camera or microphone. Alerts go to the phone numbers you choose, and we do not sell your data.

    Is GasLock certified?

No. It is in development and holds no certifications or approvals. Before sale it needs review against Indian requirements, including BIS standards for gas detectors and PESO guidance, plus radio and EMC testing. It is an added layer of protection, not a replacement for safe cylinder handling, regular checks by your gas distributor or your regulator's own safety features.

What happens if the power fails or the sensor fails?

GasLock is designed to fail safe: it only ever turns the knob towards OFF and never opens the gas. Batteries keep it working for one shut-off and about 24 hours of alarm during a power cut. If the sensor or actuator develops a fault, or the batteries run low, it sounds a warning and alerts your phone.

    How is it installed?

The actuator clamps over the regulator's on/off knob with no tools and no cutting into the gas line, and the sensor pod mounts near the floor within 1.5 m. We will publish a list of compatible regulators. Never modify the regulator or gas hose.

    What connectivity does it need?

Detection, shut-off and the siren all work without any network. Home Wi-Fi is needed for phone and family alerts.

    Is GasLock LPG available now?

No. It is a new concept in development. Specifications are target specifications. It is a concept: we are not taking orders, reservations or deposits, and it has no ship date yet.

What warranty will it come with?

We are planning a 2-year limited hardware warranty covering manufacturing defects. Final terms will be published before shipping begins.
