What it is

A sensor crown for a wet-floor sign, with a wall dock, that does three jobs.

What it does

  • Logs when the sign is out
  • Shows a heat colour and keeps a heat log
  • Flags vape and smoke events
  • Proves floor walks by NFC tap

Who it's for

Hotels, apartment buildings and offices.

The idea

The wet-floor sign staff already carry logs when it goes out, glows the heat colour and flags vaping in the stairwell

The problem today

A hotel or apartment building proves its wet-floor signs were out only from staff memory, checks back-of-house heat with a handheld meter, and hears about vaping from guest complaints. Our own three single-job products for these jobs add up to $1,547 plus $230 a month, each on its own wall or ceiling.

With FloorSafe

A small crown on each sign's handle logs when the sign is opened, folded and put back, and shows the heat colour on a light ring. On its wall dock it charges, counts as a floor-walk checkpoint and watches the air full-time for vape and smoke. One app keeps the sign timeline, the heat log and the air events.

  2. 2Wall dock by the laundryHolds and charges the folded sign, is a walk checkpoint, and logs the hot laundry air as heat bands
  3. 3Wall dock at stairwell BA second sign on its dock watches the stairwell air full-time and flags a burst that looks like vaping

What you see in the app

One screen for each job FloorSafe does.

  • Wet floorA cleaner opens sign 3 on a spill in the lobby. The app logs when and where, and when it goes back on its dock.

  • Floor walksOn each round, staff tap their phone on the sign's dock. Every tap is timed, so there is proof the floor was checked.

  • Heat stressIn the laundry, the sign's light ring turns yellow when the heat index climbs. Staff get a break reminder.

  • Vape and smokeWhen it's docked in a stairwell, the sign reads the air every second and flags a vape cloud. It names the place, never a person.

App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.

    Lab updates for FloorSafe

    All lab updates
    1. LatestA hotel or apartment building needs proof its wet-floor signs were out, a log of back-of-house heat under indoor heat rules, and word of vaping in non-smoking areas; today that is staff memory, a handheld meter and our own three single-job products at $1,547 plus $230 a month (sources in DESIGN.md).
      • Drawn idea plan (idea.json): a hotel back-of-house floor from above with the laundry, stairwell B, the service lift, the service corridor with a mopped spill, the guest rooms and the engineer's office; pins for a sign out on the floor, two wall docks and the engineer's and manager's phones
      • The product picture is now this drawn plan instead of the plain fallback card; drawn from the rev A design notes, not the CAD
      • What we kept from the market work: vape and heat are flags for a place, never a person, and the sign log is evidence, not fall prevention; the plan says so through what each pin does
      • Next: drawn plans for more catalogue products that still show the fallback card

See it in 3DFull research and design

    2. Hotels, apartment buildings and offices need three things done in the same corridors: show when a wet floor was signed and checked (slip claims), measure indoor heat in laundries and back corridors (California's indoor heat rule starts at 82 °F), and catch smoking and vaping in non-smoking areas (about $620–1,300 per hotel incident, Minut). Today that is three separate tools, or none.
      • New product FloorSafe: one ESP32-C6 brain, one battery, one Wi-Fi radio and one case do the jobs of SpillGuard AI, HeatFlag and VapeSense AI
      • New CAD parts: a sensor crown on the wet-floor sign handle (with a vented heat-probe fin), its lid, a light dome, the SpillGuard handle clip, and a wall dock that charges the crown, holds the folded sign and carries the walk-check NFC tag; every bought part fits and each part is one solid
      • 3D view: the sign folded on its dock on a corridor wall, with the crown on its handle
      • Dropped for indoor use: HeatFlag's black globe, wind sensor, solar panel and pole beacon; VapeSense's LoRa radio and ceiling mount; SpillGuard's separate tag battery and wall plaques
      • Product page: $349 + $15/month, against $1,547 + $230/month for the three products bought separately; parts about $140 (est.)

    FloorSafe FAQ

    General FAQ
    Which products does FloorSafe replace?

It does the job of SpillGuard AI (sign log and walk checkpoints), HeatFlag (heat colour and heat log, indoors) and VapeSense AI (vape and smoke events) in one device. Those three cost $1,547 + $230 a month together; FloorSafe is $349 + $15 a month.

How can a sign that moves detect vaping?

The sign lives on its wall dock most of the day, in a corridor or stairwell. There it reads the air every second on dock power. When the sign is out on a wet floor, it reads the air 1 minute in 5, so short events can be missed.

Does it prove we followed the heat rule?

No. It measures and logs the indoor heat index and shows a colour. It is a monitor-and-alert aid; your heat plan, water, rest and cool-down areas are still needed.

Does it have a camera or microphone?

No. It uses air, heat and tilt sensors only. Air events name a place, never a person.

    Is FloorSafe available now?

No. It is a concept in design. Specifications are targets. We are not taking orders, reservations or deposits, and it has no ship date yet.
