All connected
8 key parts, one program, and your phone
What it is
A solar pole with one brain that does three jobs where a farm meets the woods.
What it does
Who it's for
Orchards, vineyards and farms next to woods or scrub, with crews working in summer.
The idea
The problem today
A grower next to scrub has no smoke camera, checks the moth traps by hand every week and relies on one supervisor with a handheld heat meter. Agency smoke cameras cost about $50,000 a year a station, and our own three single-job products add up to $5,898 plus $224 a month.
With FieldEdge
One pole at the headland watches the tree line and the hills for smoke and sends a bearing and a photo, photographs the trap card for new moths, and lights a four-colour heat flag the whole crew can see from the rows. One app, one battery, one panel.
How the parts connect
Every part, what links it to the brain, and how the data reaches your phone. A solid line is a cable; a dashed line is a radio link.
The program
for (;;) {
for (const cam of HORIZON) {
const band = cropBand(await libcameraStill(cam), cam.horizonMask)
tracker.update(cam, await hailo.infer(tile(band, 640))) // smoke class
}
for (const c of tracker.confirmed()) if (!inMuteZone(c)) modem.send(alertJson(c))
const w = wbgt(max31865.read(), sht45.read(), anemometer.read()) // estimate
beacon.set(flagFor(w, site.workload)) // green/yellow/red/black
if (flagChanged(w)) modem.send({ wbgt: w, flag: beacon.flag })
if (trapDue()) {
mux.select('trap'); leds.on(); const card = await libcameraStill('trap'); leds.off()
modem.send(countNewMoths(card, lastCard)) // classifier on the CM5
}
await sleep(fireWeather(sht45, anemometer) ? 30_000 : 60_000)
}To your phone
Phone push, SMS, voice call and web map
One screen for each job FieldEdge does.
Smoke watchA thin column of smoke rises beyond the hills west of the orchard. The supervisor gets a bearing and a photo, so a call to 911 goes out sooner.
Heat stressPickers are working in the afternoon sun. The pole's beacon turns yellow, and the crew lead sees red is likely by 15:30.
Moth countA sticky trap hangs on the pole's arm. Twice a day a camera in its lid photographs the card and counts only the new moths.
App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.
| Smoke alert | Bearing 268°, 5-7 km, photo | Each alert |
|---|---|---|
| Heat flag | Yellow, WBGT 28.9 °C (est.) | Every minute, sent on change |
| Heat forecast | Red by 15:30 | Every 15 min |
| New moths | 3 new, card 41% full | 07:00 and 19:00 |
| Air quality | AQI 62 (official feed) | Hourly |
| Battery | 13.2 V, 88% | Hourly |
Cameras see the horizon and the trap card only; no face recognition; night images stay on the pole.

From the product lab · ideation phase
It does the job of SmokeSentinel AI (smoke on the horizon), PestTrap AI (moth counts in a delta trap) and HeatGuard AI (heat-stress flag for crews) on one pole with one brain, one radio, one panel and one battery. Bought separately they cost $5,898 + $224 a month; FieldEdge is $2,990 + $49 a month (target).
No. It is a daylight smoke spotter that sends a bearing and a photo so a person can check and call 911. It is not a listed fire detector, it does not call the fire service, and we make no claim about smoke at night.
No device can do that on its own. FieldEdge estimates WBGT; it is not ISO 7243 certified and cannot predict anyone's heat illness. It helps you keep a heat log and see the official AQI, but your heat and smoke plans, water, shade, rest and masks stay your responsibility.
A sticky card and a pheromone lure for your pest, changed when the app says the card is full or the lure is due. The camera counts the new insects; your adviser still decides when to spray.
The horizon cameras point at the tree line and hills above the rows, the trap camera sees only the card, and the heat job uses no camera. There is no face recognition.
No. It is a concept in design; the CAD and fit checks are done, but it has not been built or tested. We are not taking orders, reservations or deposits.
