6 key parts, one program, and your phone

What it is

A small stick-on battery puck that tells your phone when a washer, dryer or dishwasher finishes.

What it does

  • Alerts when the cycle is done
  • Warns of off-balance spins
  • Spots stalled or overlong cycles
  • Works with Matter smart-home apps

Who it's for

Households, apartment blocks, hostels and shared laundry rooms.

The idea

Stick-on pucks count every washer and dryer cycle in a building's laundry room, independently of the route operator

The problem today

Apartment owners share laundry revenue with a route operator under a seven-year contract, but the only cycle counts come from the operator's own statement. A dead machine can sit for days before a resident complains, and at renewal the owner has no usage data to negotiate with.

With CycleTap

A battery puck on each machine counts its cycles from vibration and the motor's field, and one gateway in the room sends them over the mobile network, with no building Wi-Fi. The owner can check each statement, sees a machine that has gone quiet on day one, and goes into the renewal with real numbers. In a room the owner runs, residents scan a QR tag to see which machines are free now.

  2. 2Puck on washer W1Counts each wash from the drum's vibration and the motor's field, so the owner can check the operator's statement machine by machine
  3. 3Puck on washer W4Same count on every washer; a puck that is pried off or moved tells the owner the same day
  4. 4Puck on dryer D2A dryer that goes quiet for a day while its neighbours run is flagged as likely down, with a service request ready to send

What you see in the app

One screen for each job CycleTap does.

  • Statement auditThe route operator's monthly statement arrives. The app sets it against the cycles the pucks counted on every washer and dryer.

  • Down machineDryer 2 has run nothing for a day while the other dryers keep going. The manager gets a ready-to-send service request on day one.

  • Free machinesA resident scans the QR tag on the laundry door and sees which machines are free before carrying a basket downstairs.

App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.

    Lab updates for CycleTap

    All lab updates
    1. LatestAn apartment owner who shares laundry revenue with a route operator needs their own cycle count to check each statement and to negotiate the seven-year renewal; an 8-machine room grosses about $1,800 a month and a 5-point better split is worth about $7,560 over a term (est.; sources in DESIGN.md).
      • Drawn idea plan (idea.json): a shared laundry room from above with four washers, four dryers, a folding table and the corridor door; pins for the room gateway, pucks on two washers and a dryer, and the free-now QR tag on the door
      • The product picture is now this drawn plan instead of the plain fallback card; drawn from the rev A1 design notes, not the CAD
      • What we kept from the market work: CycleTap sells to the building owner, not to homes or laundromats
      • Next: drawn plans for more catalogue products, then deeper market checks on the flagships

See it in 3DFull research and design

    2. A shared laundry room has three jobs: the owner wants to know which machines are down and how many cycles really ran, to check coins or the route operator's statement (route systems like LaundryView belong to the operator); residents want to know what is free before carrying a basket downstairs; and a burst washer hose costs about $5,300 a claim after the deductible (figure attributed to IBHS). Our own three products for it cost about $1,277 and $153 a month for an 8-machine room.
      • Combined into LaundryRoom (https://iemilabs.com/products/laundryroom/); CycleTap itself is unchanged

    CycleTap FAQ

    General FAQ
    What data does CycleTap collect?

Only machine vibration and motor-field readings, processed on the puck into cycle states. There is no microphone or camera. Cycle events go to your smart-home app or the CycleTap app; raw sensor data stays on the device unless you choose to share it to improve the model.

    Is CycleTap certified?

No. It is in development and holds no certifications yet. Matter certification and radio and EMC testing (for example FCC and CE) are planned before sale. CycleTap only reports what it senses; it does not control your appliance.

    How do I install it?

Wipe the top or side of the machine, peel the backing and press the puck on. Then scan the Matter code. It takes about a minute, with no tools or wiring.

    What connectivity does it need?

Matter over Thread, which needs a Thread border router; many recent smart speakers and hubs include one. If you do not have one, it can use Wi-Fi instead, with shorter battery life.

    Is CycleTap available now?

No. It is a new concept in development. Specifications are target specifications. It is a concept: we are not taking orders, reservations or deposits, and it has no ship date yet.

What warranty will it come with?

We are planning a 2-year limited hardware warranty covering manufacturing defects. Final terms will be published before shipping begins.
