What it is

A hub above the walk-in cooler door with one brain that does three cold-room jobs.

What it does

  • Warns about a door left open, cooler faults and power loss
  • Keeps the product temperature record with a QR link for the inspector
  • Photographs the shelves and flags empty and low rows

Who it's for

Restaurants, school and care-home kitchens and small grocers with walk-in coolers, through their refrigeration contractor.

How the data reaches ColdRoom app and contractor dashboard

iPhone, Android or browser

  1. ColdRoom hub
  2. IEMI cloud
  3. IEMI cloud
  4. Manager and contractor

What you see in the app

One screen for each job ColdRoom does.

  • Cooler troubleAt 4 am the walk-in's defrost never runs and the air keeps creeping up. The manager and the refrigeration contractor get the same alert.

  • Temperature recordAn inspector scans the QR label on the door frame and sees the product temperature record, with no paper log to find.

  • Delivery checkThe milk arrives at 6:40. The driver waits while a cook presses the DELIVERY key, and the hub records how fast it cools.

  • Shelf stockWith the door shut, the hub photographs the shelves every 30 minutes. The cook sees what has run out without walking into the cold.

App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.

    Lab updates for ColdRoom

    All lab updates
    1. LatestA kitchen, grocer or pharmacy needs one thing at the walk-in that keeps the temperature log, calls a propped door, a power cut or a stuck defrost before the food is lost, and checks nobody is left inside. The FDA Food Code wants a thermometer and cold holding at 5 °C (41 °F), the CDC wants a buffered data logger for vaccines, and kits cost $365 to $449 (ThermoWorks) with a gateway and a paper log.

    2. Restaurant and small-grocer walk-in coolers must hold food at 5 °C or below (FDA Food Code 2022), so kitchens pay for a temperature alarm (Temp Stick, SensorPush), keep a paper log for the inspector and walk in before every order to see what is low (MarketMan and similar apps are $199–749 a month).
      • New product ColdRoom: one XIAO ESP32S3 Sense brain with a camera, one LTE-M backup modem, one backup battery and one app do the jobs of CoolerCheck, ColdChain Guard (in the walk-in) and ShelfScan (for the cooler)
      • New CAD parts: a hub (base and lid with a camera window, DELIVERY key and three lights), a wall bracket, an antenna plate with the QR record label for the kitchen side, and a door-seal pass for the power and antenna leads; CoolerCheck's air probe clip, glycol bottle holder and door magnet bracket reused; every bought part fits and each part is one solid
      • 3D view: inside a restaurant walk-in, with the hub above the closed door, wire shelves of produce and dairy, the product probe bottle on a shelf and the antenna plate outside
      • Dropped: CoolerCheck's LoRa gateway and roof CT node, ColdChain Guard's truck GPS and BLE door tag, and ShelfScan's Pi hub and battery shelf cameras
      • Product page: $299 + $29 a month per walk-in, against $697 + $90 a month for the three products bought separately; parts about $119 (est.)

    ColdRoom FAQ

    General FAQ
    Which products does ColdRoom replace?

It does the job of CoolerCheck (door left open, defrost and compressor trouble, power loss), ColdChain Guard (product temperature record with a QR link, delivery log, LTE-M backup) and ShelfScan (empty and low shelf rows with a photo) for one walk-in cooler. Those cost $697 + $90 a month together; ColdRoom is $299 + $29 a month.

Does it make my kitchen compliant with food-safety rules?

No. It keeps a continuous temperature record that helps you show monitoring, but your written procedures and corrective actions are still yours, and a reading is only as good as where the probe sits.

Will it fix or control my cooler?

No. It alerts only. It tells you and your contractor about a door left open, a missed defrost or a warming product; it does not switch anything.

Does the camera record my staff?

It takes still photos only when the door is shut, deletes any shot with a person on the hub, and sends only photos of changed shelf rows. A notice is on the lid.

Does it work in a freezer?

Not yet. The camera window frosts in a freezer. Freezers stay with CoolerCheck's probes for now.

    Is ColdRoom available now?

No. It is a concept in design. Specifications are targets. We are not taking orders, reservations or deposits, and it has no ship date yet.
