  1. 01

    The whole BedSide

One hub on the footboard reads the bed cups, the bag hook, the call handset and a room radar, hears the Dock at the door by radio, and sends all five jobs to one app.

The brain: it runs the bedside-hub program

7 key parts, one program, and your phone

What it is

One bedside system for a care-home room that does five jobs from one hub on the footboard.

What it does

  • Reminds carers when a turn is due and warns of bed exit
  • Adds a reason and voice note to every call
  • Logs the night bag and warns when it stops draining
  • Notices a resident away too long and counts hand rubs per visit

Who it's for

Care homes, nursing homes and assisted-living operators who must show turning, output, call and hand-hygiene records.

How the parts connect

How the data reaches BedSide app and nurse-station board

Carer phones (Android/iPhone) and a browser at the nurse station

  1. Dock at the door
  2. Footboard hub
  3. IEMI cloud or the home's Edge Hub
  4. Carer phones and the station board

What you see in the app

One screen for each job BedSide does.

  • TurnsTwo residents on Wing B have lain on one side for two hours. The cups saw no shift, so the TurnClock and the carer's phone say a turn is due.

  • Call with reasonAt night the resident in room 7 presses TOILET on the handset and records a short voice note. The carer knows why before she walks in.

  • Night bagOvernight the bed-frame hook weighs room 12's drainage bag. When it stops filling for longer than usual, the night carer is asked to check the tube.

  • Room activityThe cups say room 9's bed is empty and the radar sees one person in the bathroom, far longer than her usual 8 minutes.

  • Hand rubThe dock under room 7's door dispenser counts each rub while the radar counts carer visits. The manager sees the room's rate, never who rubbed.

App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.

What the app gets

Data BedSide sends to the app
CallRoom 7 · TOILET · voice noteEach press
TurnsLast turn 1 h 40 min ago, left; next due 22:30Each change

Night bag640 mL, emptied 06:10 (520 mL)Every 10 min and each emptying

No camera and no recordings except the voice note the resident chooses to make. Hand-rub counts are per room, never per carer.

    Lab updates for BedSide

    All lab updates
    1. LatestA care home or ward needs one thing at each bed that calls a resident getting up before they stand, someone on the floor and what a call is for, and fills the turn, fluid and hand-rub records, without a camera in a private room. CQC asks for the least intrusive option, a bed-exit signal is a Class I exempt bed-patient monitor (21 CFR 880.2400), and homes pay about $240 a room + $19.99 a month for a wall radar (Vayyar) on top of mats and call bells.
      • Now part of CareOne: https://iemilabs.com/products/careone/

See it in 3DFull research and design

    2. Care homes must keep a turning chart, an output chart, a call log and a hand-hygiene audit for every room, and check residents who are up at night. Today that is paper charts, night rounds, a plain call cord and products such as Vayyar Care (about $240 a room plus $19.99 a month, consumer price) or bed-exit pads, each with its own app.
      • New product BedSide: one ESP32-S3 hub on the footboard does the jobs of CareWatch AI, TurnCup, CallNote, BagPost and RubDock
      • New CAD parts: the hub (case and lid with a radar window, TurnClock window and 8 cable glands) and a bag hook (clamp and hook) that puts BagPost's load cell on the bed frame; TurnCup's cups, CallNote's handset and cradle, and RubDock's Dock reused; every bought part fits and each part is one solid
      • 3D view: a care-home bedroom with the hub on the footboard, a cup under the caster, the handset on the side rail, the night bag on the frame and the Dock by the door
      • Dropped: CareWatch's 60 GHz puck and bathroom puck, RubDock's door counter (the hub radar sees visits instead), the handset's own battery, chip and screen, and BagPost's floor stand
      • Product page: $449 + $14 a month per bed against $985 + $36 a month for the five products bought separately; parts about $326 per bed at qty 1 (est.)

    BedSide FAQ

    General FAQ
    Which products does BedSide replace?

It does the job of CareWatch AI (room activity, time out of the room), TurnCup (turns and bed exit), CallNote (call reason, voice note, Help is coming), BagPost (night-bag output) and RubDock (hand-rub count and refill) at one bed. Those cost $985 + $36 a month together; BedSide is $449 + $14 a month.

Does the call still work if BedSide fails?

Yes. Each key closes the nurse-call loop through its own plain switch straight to the 1/4" jack. The hub only adds the reason, the note and the light.

Does it detect falls or prevent pressure injuries?

No. It monitors and alerts only: turn reminders, bed exit, time out of the room, no drainage. It makes no fall, pressure-injury or diagnosis claim.

    Is there a camera?

No. The bed is weighed and the room is seen by radar. Hand-rub counts are per room and per visit, never per carer.

    What about the bathroom?

There is no bathroom sensor. An empty bed and an empty bedroom for longer than usual is reported as "out of the room", so the carer checks.

    Is BedSide available now?

No. It is a concept in design. Specifications are targets. We are not taking orders, reservations or deposits, and it has no ship date yet.
