ParentHome
One bedside system for a parent at home: doses taken, oxygen hours left, walking and night get-ups, in one family app
Does the job of PillPerch, OxyCart and PaceRoll with one brain: a hub on the nightstand weighs and photographs the weekly pill box (dose taken, wrong day, late, fill check, PRN gap), hears the oxygen cylinder cart and the rollator HandlePod over a short radio link (hours of oxygen left, metres walked, gait speed, brakes parked, walker down), senses a power cut itself and turns it into 'switch to the cylinder, 4 h 50 min left', and a small bed eye on the nightstand sees a night get-up and lights the walker's floor lamp. Monitor and remind only: it never sets the oxygen flow, sees a compartment emptied not a pill swallowed, and is not fall detection.
- Who buys it
- Adult children of an older parent who lives alone with a pill routine, home oxygen and a rollator (PillPerch's, OxyCart's and PaceRoll's family buyer), and home-care agencies who visit that parent.
- Why it pays
- Bought separately, our three products are $447 up front plus $14 a month (PillPerch $119 + $4/mo, OxyCart kit $199 + $4/mo, PaceRoll kit $129 + $6/mo), with three apps. ParentHome is $329 + $6/month. For comparison, Hero alone is $99.99 + $29.99-44.99 a month and a medical alert $25-29 a month.
- Target price
- $329 per home + $6/month for family alerts (target); separately the three products are $447 + $14/month
- First-minute wow
- At 02:40 Dad's legs swing over the bed edge: the walker's floor lamp comes on before he stands, the hub notes he took the walker, and at 08:12 the same app shows his morning pills taken and 4 h 50 min of backup oxygen left.

What the research found
And how this design answers it
- Three single-job products with three Wi-Fi links and three apps → one brain (PillPerch's XIAO ESP32S3 Sense) on the nightstand, one Wi-Fi link, one backup battery, one screen, one chime and one app
- OxyCart's FlowTee dropped: the hub's own power board senses mains loss, so the power-cut alert with the cylinder's hours left needs no extra box (the purity readout was gated by a 510(k) anyway)
- PaceRoll's BedTag (own chip, AA cells and buzzer) → a small wired bed eye on the nightstand side; the hub chimes and tells the walker lamp to light
- The cart and the HandlePod must move, so they keep a small XIAO ESP32-C3 each, but talk ESP-NOW to the hub instead of joining Wi-Fi: longer battery life and no Wi-Fi set-up on them
- Dropped: concentrator purity and run-hours logging (FlowTee), PaceRoll's optional Home Node bridge
Use case
Night get-up, morning pills, then a power cut
Father living alone on home oxygenDaughter in another cityHome-care agency
- 01Trigger: at 02:40 the bed eye sees legs swing over the bed edge
- 02Detection: the hub tells the HandlePod to light the floor lamp; the walker moves within 45 s, so the night log says 'with walker'
- 03Alert: at 08:12 Wed AM is taken; at 11:05 mains is lost, the hub chimes and shows 'switch to the cylinder, 4 h 50 min'
- 04Action: the daughter gets 'probable power cut, 4 h 50 min of cylinder' and calls the oxygen supplier and a neighbour
Outcome: One system replaces three, at $329 + $6/month instead of $447 + $14/month; every alert carries the reading that caused it
How it works
Architecture
- 01
Sense: pill tray and PRN load cells + downward camera; cylinder load cell in the cart; wheel and brake Hall sensors and IMU on the rollator; ToF bed eye
- 02
Decide: on the ESP32-S3 in the hub camera head: compartment change, dose windows, hours of oxygen left, walk summaries, night get-up rule
- 03
Act: one chime and one e-paper on the hub; walker floor lamp lit by radio command
- 04
Send: cart and HandlePod to the hub over ESP-NOW; hub to the cloud over home Wi-Fi, MQTT over TLS
- 05
Tell: one family app with push and SMS; weekly fill and walking report

Open risks we are working on
- ESP-NOW and Wi-Fi share one radio and must sit on the router's channel; a router that changes channel drops the satellites until they rescan
- If the router has no backup power, a power cut is only inferred from silence after 3 minutes (as OxyCart); the local chime and screen still work
- The bed eye's beam along the bed edge from a nightstand is untested on real beds and duvets that hang over the side
- Pill compartments against the inner wall of deep boxes can be partly hidden from the camera (PillPerch view report)
- US class: medication reminder (Class I exempt); oxygen and walking are monitor-and-alert only; no fall-detection or PERS claim
- No family interviews yet; buyers with all three needs at once are a subset of each source product's buyers
