GoalSide

One pitch-side hub for a youth club: shot stats and heading limits at training, sin bins and everyone-plays quarters on match day

One pitch kit does the jobs of SmartGoal (GoalCam shot stats and the HeadCount heading pod) and OffsideFlag's match-day boards (SinBin and QuarterBoard). The Edge Hub SmartGoal already carries is the one brain: at training it finds each shot's zone, outcome and speed and counts headers against the FA limits; on match day it keeps one match clock, times every sin bin from the restart with lost time, tracks who must start each quarter, and drives both e-paper boards on the halfway post over the same access point.

Who buys it
The coaching or equipment lead of a grassroots or AYSO-style youth club that trains and plays on its own pitch and already runs sin bins and an equal-playing-time rule.
Why it pays
Bought separately, SmartGoal Training ($3,999 + $150/month), the HeadCount add-on ($149), a SinBin board ($99) and a QuarterBoard ($119) cost $4,366 + $150/month. GoalSide is $3,790 + $150/month (target), with one app and the boards sharing the hub's clock instead of the coaches' phones.
Target price
$3,790 per pitch kit + $150/month (target): hub, 2 GoalCams, HeadCount pod, SinBin board and QuarterBoard
First-minute wow
The goal clip at 31:40 already says "AWAY down to 10, #7 back in 3:40", and the QuarterBoard lists who must start Q4. Training and match day from one case.

What the research found

And how this design answers it

  • Two products, two clocks (hub for training, board XIAOs and coach phones for match day) → one Edge Hub runs the shot, header, sin-bin and quarter jobs on one match clock
  • The SinBin and QuarterBoard keep their cases and screens unchanged but join the hub's CPE210 access point instead of the referee wrist and coach phones; the engines moved to the hub (5/5 sin-bin checks and the quarter checks pass there)
  • Goal clips are tagged with the match minute and who is in the sin bin
  • Dropped: OffsideFlag's AR flags, LineCam, RefCam and UmpCam (the referee's own kit, a different buyer) and SmartGoal's third GoalCam on a stand (two posts cover a youth goal)
  • Rules: a timing and records aid; the referee keeps the official time and decides every return and substitution

Use case

Saturday U12 match on the club pitch

Club coachVolunteer refereeParents

  1. 01Trigger: an away player is sin-binned for dissent in a quarter-format match
  2. 02Detection: the referee taps AWAY on the SinBin board at the restart; the hub starts 8 minutes on the match clock
  3. 03Alert: the board shows #7 3:40 left; a goal at 31:40 is clipped and tagged "AWAY down to 10"; before Q4 the QuarterBoard shows two players who must start
  4. 04Action: the coach starts the two players; the referee waves #7 back when READY shows and the ball is out

Outcome: No sums on a scrap of paper, no forfeit for a missed quarter, and the goal clip carries the context

How it works

Architecture

  1. 01

Sense: 2 GoalCams on the posts, HeadCount pod with NFC wristbands, HOME/AWAY and NEXT/OK keys on the two boards

  2. 02

Decide: shot finding on the Hailo-8; header limits, sin-bin and quarter engines on the Edge Hub on one match clock

  3. 03

Send: one CPE210 access point for every device; LTE or club Wi-Fi from the hub

  4. 04

Tell: one GoalSide club app for coaches, referee and parents, plus the e-paper boards on the halfway post

Open risks we are working on

  • A referee or league may refuse a club-owned timing board or treat it as official; it stays an aid and the referee keeps time
  • Wi-Fi from the hub at the goal end to the halfway post (about 50 m) is untested; bodies and benches block 2.4 GHz
  • One 24 Ah bank runs the hub about 7.7 h (est.): a long tournament day needs a second bank or clubhouse power
  • Veo, Trace and Pixellot sell match video with apps; a club may already pay for one and only want the boards
  • Clips of children need the club's safeguarding sign-off before any sharing
