CoachVision Bay
Multi-angle video for coaches: every rep in the cage and every play on game night, with no one filming
Fixed cameras record and cut every rep in a batting cage or every play in a high-school football game, and serve multi-angle clips to the coaches' tablets from the Edge Hub.
- Who buys it
- Owner of a private baseball, softball or cricket training facility with 4 to 12 bays; or a high-school football head coach or athletic director (SidelineReplay kit).
- Why it pays
- Bays: a $10 video add-on on half of 25 weekly lessons per bay is about $540 a month per bay against a $59 fee (est.). Football: a $1,290 one-off SidelineReplay kit against Hudl Sideline at $500-1,500 a year plus $800-3,000 storage (2016 prices; now quoted per school).
- Target price
- $590 hub + $990/bay + $59/bay/month; SidelineReplay football kit $1,290 with hub, no annual fee (target)
- First-minute wow
- The offense comes off after a series and the coach is already showing the line the last play from the end zone and the press box, cut without anyone pressing record.

What the research found
And how this design answers it
- Phone apps (OnForm $29.99/month) still need someone to film → fixed cameras record every rep automatically
- Accuracy needs multiple cameras → three calibrated 100 fps global-shutter views; metrics shown as 2D estimates with error bands, no 3D claim
- Consumer gadgets have high returns → B2B install in facilities that already charge for lessons
- Identity and minors → NFC wristband identifies the athlete, no face recognition, video stays on site unless a coach shares reps
- High-school football programs skip sideline replay for cost and staff (Hudl Sideline $500-1,500/yr + storage; one coach said he would need two more assistants) → SidelineReplay: two Pi 5 pods at the end zone and press box, a 5 GHz bridge to the team box, plays cut automatically, no annual fee, used as NFHS 1-6-1 allows (coaching only, players at conferences outside the 9-yard marks)
Use case
Hands-free hitting lesson
CoachHitterParentFacility desk
- 01Trigger: the hitter taps a wristband at the bay gate and the LED turns green
- 02Detection: the bay node cuts each swing from a RAM ring of all three cameras
- 03Analysis: the Edge Hub runs pose estimation and adds stride, knee and head-drift estimates
- 04Action: the coach stars reps on the tablet and sends them to the parent's link
Outcome: About $540 a month of video add-on revenue per bay at 50% attach (est.)
How it works
Architecture
- 01
Sense: 3 Arducam OV9782 100 fps cameras per bay plus an NFC tag reader; or 2 Camera Module 3 Wide replay pods (end zone, press box) for football
- 02
Decide: Pi 5 bay node detects and cuts reps; Edge Hub (Hailo-8) runs pose and metrics between reps
- 03
Send: local MQTT and WebSocket to the coach tablet; only metrics and events go to the cloud
- 04
Tell: rep cards, 3-angle viewer, athlete trends and parent share links
Hardware
Real parts, buyable today
Bill of materials: about $585 per bay plus $422 per 4-bay hub; SidelineReplay about $640 for 2 pods + team-box link, plus the hub (est.).
| Block | Part | Why this part |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Arducam B0385 OV9782 colour global shutter USB, MJPEG 100 fps | No skew on a fast bat; the camera compresses itself, so the Pi 5's missing encoder does not matter |
| Bay node | Raspberry Pi 5 4GB + M.2 HAT+ with Raspberry Pi SSD 512GB (NVMe) | Three USB cameras and the tag reader use the Pi's 4 USB ports; clip storage is on PCIe, so no hub and no USB bandwidth lost to the SSD |
| Hub | Raspberry Pi 5 8GB + AI HAT+ 26 TOPS (Hailo-8) | Shared Edge Hub runs pose for up to 4 bays |
| Athlete ID | XIAO ESP32-C3 + PN532 NFC + NTAG215 wristbands | Works with batting gloves on; no face recognition |
| Replay pod (football) | Raspberry Pi 5 4GB + Camera Module 3 Wide + TP-Link CPE510 5 GHz bridge + USB-C PD power bank | Films from the end zone or press box, where WIAA reads NFHS 1-6-1 to allow coaching video, and cuts each play itself |

Open risks we are working on
- Wrist and hand keypoints at contact may be unreliable through motion blur and netting
- Facility willingness to pay $59 per bay per month is unproven
- Relies on a precompiled Hailo pose model; the lab cannot compile models
- 5 GHz link across a full stadium and snap detection at night or in rain are untested; each state association may set its own limits on sideline equipment
