8 key parts, one program, and your phone

What it is

One ceiling hub that watches the garage door, answers the side-door bell and listens to the water heater, with one app.

What it does

  • Tells you when the big door is open and closes it once the doorway is clear
  • Rings your phone at the side door with video, talk and parcel alerts
  • Alerts you to water in the heater pan, a dripping relief valve and freezing pipes
  • Joins the alerts so one message tells the whole story

Who it's for

Families with an attached garage that holds the water heater and a side door they use.

How the parts connect

GarageHome, wired up

Every part, what links it to the brain, and how the data reaches your phone. A solid line is a cable; a dashed line is a radio link.

What you see in the app

One screen for each job GarageHome does.

  • Big doorA winter night: the family drove in at 21:10 and nobody closed the big door. The ceiling camera sees it still open and the garage empty of people.

  • Side-door bellAfternoon: a courier rings the side-door bell while the family is out and leaves a parcel by the step.

  • Water heaterWeekend away: the relief pipe warms with no hot water being used, then water reaches the heater pan.

App screens with sample data. The interface is in development.

    Lab updates for GarageHome

    All lab updates
    1. LatestA family with an attached garage needs one thing that keeps the big door from being left open overnight, never closes it on a child or a bike, and calls a car left running. Police keep asking residents to shut garage doors at night, and US law (16 CFR 1211, UL 325) requires a flashing light and a sound before any remote close.
      • Now part of GarageOne: https://iemilabs.com/products/garageone/

See it in 3DFull research and design

    2. Families want to know when the garage door is left open at night (police in Apple Valley MN and Papillion NE keep asking residents to check), who is at the side door, and whether the water heater is leaking. Today that is a myQ hub ($30-50), a video doorbell (myQ list $99.99) and a leak sensor, or our own GarageEye AI, EdgeBell AI and TankWatch kit at $217 together, with three apps.
      • New product GarageHome: one ceiling hub with one brain (ESP32-P4 with an ESP32-C6 for Wi-Fi), one USB-C supply from the opener outlet, one buzzer and one app runs the garage door, the side-door bell and the water heater
      • Checked first: the ceiling camera cannot see a visitor outside the side door, so the bell station stays outside, but as a USB camera head with no brain of its own
      • Reused CAD parts unchanged: GarageEye bracket, gasket and door plaque; all six EdgeBell station parts; TankWatch pan finger and both pipe clips. Changed: the hub base (cable slot instead of a gland) and lid (buzzer grille, status light). New: a five-cable rubber grommet. 15 printed parts, each one solid, every bought part fits
      • 3D view: a two-car garage with the hub on the ceiling by the opener, the plaque on the door, the bell outside the side door and the heater on its platform with the pan finger and pipe clips
      • Program: 5 new checks pass, such as a freeze warning that says the door is open and a phone close refused when someone is in the doorway
      • Dropped: EdgeBell's own board, PoE module and strike relay box; TankWatch's battery box, LoRaWAN radio and AA cells; GarageEye's PoE
      • Hardware: parts about $95 a kit (est.); priced $189 against $217 for the three separately; product page, parts list, how-it-works and design notes added

    GarageHome FAQ

    General FAQ
    Which products does GarageHome replace?

It does the job of GarageEye AI (door, car and person, open and close from the phone), EdgeBell AI (video bell with person and parcel alerts, here at the side door) and WaterLeak TankWatch (heater pan, relief valve, night hot water and freeze). Bought separately they cost $217; GarageHome is $189 with one hub and one app.

My water heater is not in the garage. Is it still for me?

The heater lead reaches about 6 m. If your heater is further away, GarageEye AI and the TankWatch kit on their own are the better fit.

Can it close the door on someone?

It refuses a close if it sees a person or a moving car in the doorway, chirps for 10 seconds first, and only works with openers that have working safety eyes. It never opens the door by itself.

    Does it stop a leak?

No. It alerts you to water in the pan, a dripping relief valve and freezing pipes. It does not shut off water or judge the heater's condition; a plumber does that.

    Do I need a subscription?

No. Alerts, live video and clips on the hub's microSD work without one. Cloud clip backup is optional at $2 a month.

    Is GarageHome available now?

No. It is a concept in design. Specifications are targets. We are not taking orders, reservations or deposits, and it has no ship date yet.
