HomeDesign rev A, 28 Oct 2026: smart pool gate that makes the pool area's calls itself (7 calls, 5 alone, 2 assist), call lights and tone, ATECC608 and tamper switches inside; 15 sensor views checked in the CAD; not built

PoolOne

IEMI's one product for the home pool: the pool gate itself, made smart, so it checks every close and makes the pool area's calls, a child with no adult first, in one home app

The self-closing, self-latching pool gate the barrier already has, at the same 50 mm posts, leaf, hinges and latch, reads every close with a Hall sensor and a magnet in the leaf, watches the deck and the water with a wide camera and a tracking radar in the latch post and the strip outside the fence with a camera in the hinge post; it calls a gate that bounced, stayed ajar or was propped, weakening hinge springs, a child in the pool area with no adult, someone in after hours and a fence climbed, shows each call on the latch post with a light and a tone, and keeps a signed gate log.

Who buys it
Families with a backyard pool (US and Australia first), pool fence installers as the channel, and later holiday-rental owners who must keep a compliant barrier.
Why it pays
$699 + $3/month per gate with its posts instead of about $999 for a new pool gate (about $500, est.), a MagnaLatch ALERT (about $150), our PoolDeck kit ($249, which already folded the PoolGuard Fence Kit) and an outdoor camera (about $100, est.), with pods on the gate and fence, a hub box and three apps.
Target price
$699 per smart pool gate with its posts (fitting by the fence installer extra) + $3/month family alerts and the signed gate log (target)
First-minute wow
A child lets the gate swing shut and it bounces 40 mm open; the latch post turns red with a fast tone, and ten seconds later every family phone says "Pool gate open 40 mm". An hour later a four-year-old is in the pool area with no adult: the gate sounds loudly and all phones ring at once.

What the research found

And how this design answers it

  • Rev A (28 Oct 2026): the pool flagship is the pool gate itself. Everything sits inside the 50 x 50 posts and the leaf: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W brain, Camera Module 3 Wide pool camera, LD2450 radar, DRV5055 Hall sensor, call lights, tone, ATECC608, tamper switch and a backup cell in the latch post; a second Camera Module 3 Wide and Pi Zero 2 W, the 5 V buck and a cell in the hinge post; a magnet in the leaf stile
  • Makes the pool area's calls itself: gate bounced, ajar or propped, hinge springs weakening, a child with no adult, someone in after hours, fence climbed; climbable things outside and a child at the gate assist; unsure means unsure; never a drowning call
  • Folds PoolGuard (gate LeafPod, PostTag, ClearZone pods) and PoolDeck (DeckHub on the fence): their gate and fence jobs now run in the gate
  • Gaps listed: drowning detection (never claimed), the far fence, the pump pad (WaterLeak stays listed), water chemistry, house doors onto the pool, commercial after-hours voice warning

Use case

A family pool on a summer weekend

ParentsChildrenPool inspector or insurer

  1. 01Trigger: children running in and out all day, the gate swinging shut behind them
  2. 02Detect: the Hall sensor reads each close; the radar and the pool camera count who is in the pool area and how tall they are
  3. 03Act: a bounced gate or a child with no adult turns the latch post red with a tone, then every family phone rings
  4. 04Log: signed gate closes and calls in the app, shareable with an inspector

Outcome: A gate that did not latch is closed in seconds, a child alone by the water is called at once, and the barrier inspection comes with a signed log

How it works

Architecture

  1. 01

Sense: Hall sensor and leaf magnet, pool camera and radar in the latch post, outside camera in the hinge post

  2. 02

Decide: the Pi Zero 2 W reads every close, sizes and tracks people, and runs the after-hours and climb rules; unsure below the line

  3. 03

Show: red or amber call light and tone on the latch post

  4. 04

Tell: signed calls over Wi-Fi to the family app and a shareable gate log

Open risks we are working on

  • Child or adult by height from one camera is untested; crouching adults and tall children will be unsure calls (pool tests P-T1)
  • Glare on the water and night light change what the camera sees; the radar carries the night calls
  • A 50 mm post runs warm in summer sun; the Pi Zero 2 W and the cells must stay in range (heat test P-T2)
  • Pool alarm makers and pool camera makers may add gate sensing; our edge is the gate itself and the signed log
  • Not a barrier, a pool alarm or drowning detection: it monitors and alerts; buyers must never read it as supervision
