KitchenOne
IEMI's one product for the home kitchen: the range hood over your hob, made smart, so it watches the cooking and makes the kitchen's safety calls itself, in one family app
The 60 cm chimney hood that already hangs over the hob, at the same size and mounting, watches every burner and pan with a heat camera, knows if anyone is in the kitchen with a radar, counts cooker whistles and hears the home's own smoke and gas alarms with a mic, sets its own fan speed, shows each call on its front with a light and a tone, and calls the family only when needed.
- Who buys it
- Adult children of a parent who cooks alone, and families who cook on gas; later, kitchen fitters and hood makers.
- Why it pays
- $369 + $3/month (about $405 in the first year) instead of about $342 + $6/month (about $414) for a plain 60 cm chimney (about $155) plus StoveSentry, CookerCount and AlarmEcho bought separately, with three apps and a pod, a clip and a disc around the hob.
- Target price
- $369 per smart range hood + $3/month family alerts and calls (target)
- First-minute wow
- A parent puts dal on to simmer and lies down. Six minutes later the hood glows amber with a tone; nobody comes, so the daughter's phone rings: "Front-left burner lit, kitchen empty 6 minutes." She calls, the parent turns it off, and the hood goes back to white.

What the research found
And how this design answers it
- Rev A (28 Oct 2026): the kitchen flagship is the range hood itself. Everything sits in a sealed strip behind the hood's front fascia: XIAO ESP32-S3 brain, MLX90640 heat camera looking down at the hob, LD2410C radar into the room, MAX9814 mic, call light and tone, ATECC608, tamper switch, supply and 2 backup cells
- Makes the kitchen's calls itself: burner left on with the kitchen empty, dry pan, smoking oil, boil-over and flare, whistle target reached, the home's own smoke or gas alarm sounding, and the fan speed; night cooking and gas used assist; unsure means unsure
- Folds KitchenGuard, StoveSentry and CookerCount: the hood bar, kitchen pod, fan plug and fridge counter are gone
- Gaps listed: gas shut-off (a certified valve), cylinder weight (GasLock stays listed), gas sensing in the hood (LPG sinks), alarms elsewhere in the house (AlarmEcho stays listed)
Use case
A parent who cooks alone on gas
Parent who cooksAdult childrenNeighbour
- 01Trigger: lunch on two burners, a pressure cooker set to 3 whistles, then a rest
- 02Detect: the heat camera sees the burners and the cooker, the mic counts whistles, the radar sees the kitchen empty
- 03Act: blue light at 3 whistles; amber light and tone when a burner stays lit with nobody there; family call if it still stands
- 04Log: signed calls and the cooking day in the family app
Outcome: The family knows the kitchen is watched without a pod, a clip and a disc around the hob, and is called only when it matters
How it works
Architecture
- 01
Sense: heat camera, presence radar and mic inside the hood's front strip
- 02
Decide: the XIAO ESP32-S3 runs the burner, pan, whistle and alarm models and says unsure below the line
- 03
Show: call light and tone on the hood front; fan speed to the hood's own blower
- 04
Tell: signed calls over Wi-Fi to the family app, with SMS and voice calls for the serious ones

Open risks we are working on
- Steam and smoke can blur the heat image; the boil-over and flare classifier is unproven (kitchen tests K-T1)
- Air under the canopy over a wok on full flame may pass 70 °C; the front strip temperature is tested before release
- Grease film on the Ø14 window dims the heat image; the app asks for a wipe
- Fan noise can mask whistles and alarm beeps; accuracy is unmeasured
- Not a gas detector, smoke alarm or shut-off: it hears certified alarms and alerts only
- Hood makers could add the same sensors; our edge is the calls, the family app and the price
