FarmOne
IEMI's one product for a farm's water point: the stock trough itself, made smart
The 600 L stock trough already on the fence line, at the same size and on the same supply, calls a cut supply, a stuck float, a leak and ice, counts visits and litres for both paddocks, times a calving, flags an animal down, a dog at the water and fouled water, and warns of frost and heat stress, all on solar with LTE-M.
- Who buys it
- Beef, dairy-youngstock, sheep and mixed farmers and graziers with 3 to 30 troughs, who drive a water run every day today; sold through farm stores and trough dealers.
- Why it pays
- $1,490 + $9/month per trough instead of about $1,594 + $135/year for TroughTally with WinterWatch and its gateway, a CalveClock hub with a PenEye and bell, and a plain 600 L trough bought separately (est.).
- Target price
- $1,490 per trough (replaces the trough) + $9/month water point app with LTE-M (target)
- First-minute wow
- 06:52, the farmer is away at market: the fence-line trough sees the level falling with no water coming in while the mob drinks, goes red, and texts that the supply is cut with about three hours of water left.

What the research found
And how this design answers it
- Rev A (28 Oct 2026): the farms flagship is the stock water trough itself. Valve cover: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W brain, two Camera Module 3 Wide and two MLX90640 heat cameras in the water-side face (one pair per paddock), DAE AS200U-75P meter on the inlet riser, VL53L1X on the float, DS18B20, SHT45, MAX9814, Walter LTE-M and GNSS, ATECC608, D2F-01, piezo, two NeoPixel call lights, a 6 W panel flush in the top and four 18650 cells
- Makes the water point's calls itself: supply cut, stuck float or leak, ice, stock not coming to water, calving clock, a dog or fox at the water, frost and heat stress alone; an animal down and fouled water go to the farmer; unsure means 'check'
- Legal at the water point: the float valve and its air gap kept (Water Fittings Regulations, Guidance Note 9, BS 3445), the welfare rules on fresh, clean, unfrozen water met, 1,610 x 1,180 x 840 mm and no overhang checked in the CAD
- Folds TroughTally, CalvingPen and CalveClock; crop jobs in the orchard, the pivot and the sprayer stay with their own products
Use case
A 120-cow suckler herd on 14 paddocks with 9 troughs
FarmerStockmanVet
- 01Trigger: a cut pipe, a stuck float, ice at dawn, a gate left open, a heifer calving, a dog among the calves
- 02Detect: meter, float sensor, probe, cameras, heat cameras, air sensor and mic inside the valve cover
- 03Act: the trough's own red, amber, blue or white call light on that paddock's side with a tone; SMS over LTE-M
- 04Log: one signed log per trough, shared with the vet or auditor by QR code
Outcome: No daily water run, water problems found in minutes, calvings timed, and both paddocks watched from one trough
How it works
Architecture
- 01
Sense: a water meter, a float sensor, a water probe, two cameras, two heat cameras, an air sensor and a mic inside the valve cover
- 02
Decide: water rules on the always-on Walter board; animal, calving and dog models on the Pi Zero 2 W; 'check' below the line
- 03
Act: the trough's own call lights and a tone
- 04
Tell: one signed log to the water point app over LTE-M

Bought hardware fitted inside this part (checked in the CAD: nothing collides with the plastic)
- Trough body and float bay (the plain 600 L trough, unchanged)trough.stl · Rotomoulded polyethylene, grey
- Smart valve cover (brain, cameras, heat cameras, meter, float sensor, probe, air sensor, mic, LTE-M, solar, call lights, tone, secure element, tamper switch)valve-cover.stl · Rotomoulded UV-stable polyethylene, black
Open risks we are working on
- Dirt, spit and splash on the water-side windows; the windows sit 60 mm over the rim and need a wipe on the water run (field test)
- A 6 W panel in a northern winter may give only a few days of cloud cover; the Pi wakes only when stock are at the water
- LTE-M coverage on remote farms varies; calls are stored and sent when coverage returns
- Pose and calving models need field data from many breeds and coats
- BS 3445 test of the cover, radio and IP67 are still to be done
