CellOne
IEMI's one product for a machine cell: the machine's own signal tower, made smart
The Ø70 signal tower already on the machine's guard, at the same size, bracket and 24 V lead, sees the cell from a camera and a heat camera inside its sensor tier: it logs running, idle, down and alarm with cycles and OEE, suggests stop reasons, warns when someone is at an open gate in auto, reads the panel dials, watches the heater bands and calls the bin full or out of material.
- Who buys it
- Plant and maintenance managers at 10-200 person injection moulders, machine shops and metal formers with 5 to 60 machines.
- Why it pays
- $790 + $29/machine/month instead of about $1,703 + $47/machine/month for MachineState, GaugeRead (two dials), a heat watch, a plain 5-tier tower and a wireless tower transmitter bought separately (est.).
- Target price
- $790 per machine (replaces its signal tower) + $29/machine/month cell app (target)
- First-minute wow
- 01:22 on press 5: a heater band fails and barrel zone 2 drops 25 °C. The tower turns yellow before the first short shot, and the night supervisor sees it on the phone with the heat picture.

What the research found
And how this design answers it
- Rev A (28 Oct 2026): the manufacturing flagship is the machine's own Ø70 signal tower. Base: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W brain, ADS1115 on the four 24 V tier lines, LSM6DSOX cycle sensor, ATECC608, D2F-01 tamper switch and a Pololu D36V28F5 on the tower's 24 V; sensor tier: Camera Module 3 Wide (45 degrees down to the operator side), MLX90640 110 degree heat camera along the barrel and a MAX9814 mic; NeoPixel Stick 8 in each lamp tier; piezo in the cap
- Makes the cell's calls itself: machine state and cycles, person at an open gate in auto (warning only), dials, heater bands and bin or material alone; stop reasons and sounds go to a person; unsure means 'check'
- Legal on the machine: IEC 60204-1 and NFPA 79 lamp colours kept and driven by the controller as before, Ø70 x 446 mm checked in the CAD, the machine's guards and interlocks untouched (OSHA 1910.212), 24 V SELV only
- Privacy first: no face recognition, clips around calls only (14 days), staff notice label
- Market and rules check (30 Oct 2026): the EU Machinery Regulation (from 20 January 2027) asks connected devices not to corrupt the machine and to record every intervention, and the Cyber Resilience Act made 24-hour reporting of exploited flaws law on 11 September 2026; CellOne only reads the tier lines, signs its software version and keeps a five-year change record; Advantech's $107.70 WISE-S100 lamp-state sensor added to the competitors; no new part
- Stage 2 (29 Oct 2026): buyer check against Evocon ($189-319 per machine a month), FourJaw (£36-90) and the Banner TL70 wireless tower (about $561); parts prices checked on the shop pages ($309 per tower at qty 1, Pi Zero 2 W now $19.05, Pololu supply $23.95); cost about $354 / $260 at qty 100 for a 55-67 % margin (est.); price kept at $790 + $29/month; three questions for plants in customer reviews
Use case
A 40-person moulder with 24 presses on three shifts
Plant managerNight supervisorMaintenance techOperators
- 01Trigger: a press stops, a heater band fails, a setter leans in at an open gate in auto, a bin fills
- 02Detect: the four lamp lines, a cycle sensor, a cell camera and a heat camera inside the tower
- 03Act: the tower's own blue, yellow or green flash with a tone; a stop reason to confirm
- 04Log: one signed event list per machine and a shift OEE report
Outcome: Every stop has a time and a reason, a cold band is caught before short shots, and nobody walks the floor to read dials
How it works
Architecture
- 01
Sense: four 24 V tier lines, a cell camera, a heat camera, a mic and a cycle sensor inside the tower
- 02
Decide: state, gate, dial, heat and bin models on the Pi Zero 2 W; 'check' below the line
- 03
Act: the tower's own lamp tiers and a tone
- 04
Tell: one signed event list to the cell app and the ERP or MES
Hardware
Real parts, buyable today
Bill of materials: $309 per tower at qty 1 (shop prices checked 29 Oct 2026); replaces the machine's signal tower.

Open risks we are working on
- Dial reading from 1 m above at a steep angle needs tests on real panels with glare (est. ± 2 % of scale)
- Shiny heater bands read low on a heat camera; painted bands or emissivity tape may be needed (est.)
- Gate warnings must never be mistaken for a safety function; the label, app and manual say so
- Cycle detection through the guard varies by machine; the tier lines are the fallback
- Listing (UL 508 / UL 61010-1), IP65 and radio tests are still to be done
